I knew I wanted to work with glass largely, from when I first created the small models using acrylic, by applying textures to these with hot glue I was able to create some really beautiful shadows and light refractions. The acrylic I was working with was entirely transparent with no tint, and I was observing and photographing the models and the lighting effects they made I wonder how magnificent these would look with colour glowing from them.

After deciding on the large scale glass panels to place in the winter-gardens, I hunted down a glass workshop and managed to purchase a broad range of texture stained glass, these can be manufactured up to the scale of 120cm x 80cm at this specific location, but they have informed me that by ordering offshore or if I can manage to find a glass producer with large scale machinery, it is possible to order these to be larger custom sizes.

I tried to select pieces that resembled micro-organisms and plant matter, in particular microscopic views of plants, as I wanted this to be a strong connection that my structures make to the winter-gardens, and to add an educational aspect to the exhibition.
