In my own practice I have largely been exploring this threshold between public and private space, and how different fabric qualities can alter the experience of blurring this line. In defining my space as breathing, I wanted my focus material to be accommodating to changes made by people and the weather.
Therefore I chose a thin, slightly transparent silk for my design due to its fluidity and suppleness, as well as its strong correlation with interior space, as it's often used in clothes and manchester as opposed to outdoors.
The silk also has qualities which allow the air-flow within St Pauls Street to influence the materials behaviour, expanding and contracting the space both naturally and manually through the public’s transitions and performance, alongside the natural elements.
