This furniture piece was design as a standalone screen, as opposed to the structures within the rooms, this is firstly because it Is one of my first designs, and I think one of the strongest concepts, this is because it is also educational.

The 2.5 metre high glass panels, are crafted from textured glass, below are green ones, but my concept explores the idea that they would be exploring different plant textures, so throughout the glass houses there would be 4 different colours to identify them as separate plant species. These large panels are first made, and then sent to get engraved.

The engraving within the glass is unique per panel. Plant matter from 4 chosen plants in both glass houses would first be collected from the site. This is then sent to get photographed through a microscope, where the plant textures can be seen in high detail. After the plant matter imagery is received, these images are to be converted into vector/line drawings in order to be engraved as linear images. These line drawings of plant cells are then laser engraved onto the smooth side of the glass ignorer to create the display.

The concrete base actually intersects with the glass. So the rock is manipulated and drilled/carved/cut beforehand so that a slot is created just big enough for the glass to slide in. The glass once prepared can then slot in, and all gaps between the concrete and glass become filled with silicone, to waterproof and prevent slight movement and instability.

I did not manage to produce this in the renders, however I did want these glass structures to be obviously educational, where the rock face either has a plate, or is engraved with details about the specific plant matter that has been scaled up on the glass. This would include the plant name, origin, uses, and the rate of depletion, because I want to draw attention to the decline of our natural world, so by addressing the beauty of the plant and then having this informative aspect which actually makes people away that it is gradually going extinct and dying out would raise awareness.
