This proposed exhibition within the auckland domain wintergardens explores the start of a design series of tactile connections between surface and elements. My project addresses the curious meeting of certain materials (natural and artificial) and their interactions with one another during this threshold moment.

I aim to exhibit a harsh contrast between the two colliding objects as a metaphor for their inspired natural elements, to bring awareness to moments of repossession by nature, where the natural and synthetic worlds are at odds with one another. I have taken influence from subtle gestures; a raindrop

falling onto concrete, plants growing in the cracks of paving, ice fall in to the ocean. Given the current state of our environment and a decline in the health of our natural world, these designs aim to introduce a unique way of raising awareness through art and incorporating this into every day living through the practicality of the furniture pieces.

I am proposing a small selection of these intended household furniture items, which have been critically designed to simulate these interactions between nature and the world. I have experimented with the unique forms of concrete and glass combined, and found the contrast between the two surfaces

intriguing and visually engaging.

These pieces are exhibited at the gardens in a showroom format, on a raised, minimalistically dressed space, as well as being artificially lit to create a modern, fabricated layout to present these modular designs. I chose to create this deceptive space to juxtapose the winter gardens, as these staged spaces couldn't be more unique from the surrounding fernery, this also reinforces the narrative of the harsh collisions and contrasts I am trying to

demonstrate.
